Why the tissue around the eyes ages more quickly and fine lines appear here first.

The skin around the eye area is attached to muscle unlike most skin being attached to bone. Therefore the skin tissue around the eyes will endure much more movement and strain than other skin tissue. Infact on average our eye tissue will have up to 100,000 eye movements per day!

The eye area muscle is a round muscle, this makes the area seem more hollow and less plump.

Naturally our skin is made up of 16 layers in the epidermis, the skin around the eye area is much thinner and only has 6 layers. With this tissue being much thinner it holds less sebaceous glands, therfore there is less lipid fluid present and dehydration and sensitivity is an issue.

The eye area can often be darker, this is due to there being more melanocytes in this area. Melanocytes produce pigment.
